Russian warship, go fuck yourself

That’s the title. Boris Groh took the words a Ukrainian border guard said to a Russian missile cruiser off Snake Island on 24 February 2022, and painted the moment they were said: rifle lowered, one finger raised, hull number 121 sitting on the water.

We asked him if we could make it glow. He said yes.

A canvas by day. Light by night.

In daylight it reads as a fine-art canvas—grey sky over blue water over gold earth, the flag built into the landscape itself. Switch the lights off, and hand-applied luminous work takes over. The warship dissolves into cold blue linework. The soldier is lit warm gold. The grass, the horizon, Boris’s signature and his 2022 monogram all come alive.

No screen. No glass. No glow strip around the edge. Every illuminated line was applied by hand, one at a time.

Three names on one piece

Boris Groh — the Ukrainian artist behind the original work, and one of the most recognisable visual voices to come out of the invasion.

SHAPIE — a one-person workshop in Lithuania. Every piece is designed, built, photographed and shipped by hand. Yours is made after you order it.

6AM (Šešios AM) — a Lithuanian volunteer group that turns money into vehicles, drones, medical kits and gear, then physically drives them to units at the front. Founded and run by Karolis Sasnauskas, who does the buying, loading and delivering himself.

Where your money goes

[Every euro from this piece / All profit from this piece] goes to 6AM. Not a percentage, not a marketing partnership — the funds move from this sale to Karolis, who spends them on what units are actually asking for that month and takes it to them.

Five pieces have sold so far. Between them they funded [fill in: what the five actually paid for — a vehicle, X drones, medical kits for a specific unit].

That’s the whole point of this listing. Five is a start. We’d like to make this the piece that funds a lot more.

    Hanging it

It works hardest on a wall you walk past in the evening — a hallway, a stair landing, above a mantel. The night effect is strongest with no competing light, so avoid hanging it opposite a lamp or a window that catches street light.

    Questions welcome.

If you want to know exactly where the last delivery went before you buy, ask. We’ll tell you, and so will Karolis.
